When recycling tactical gloves it gives you 10 leather the perfect amount to craft the hide vest.
My favourite early game chest protection.

Don't bother making a burlap shirt, they have a very close projectile protection, but you need to use cloth for that, and in the early stages of the game cloth is one of the most valuable resources, which shouldn't be wasted when you can get something better anyway
